Price levels increased by 8.2% at the end of September, running well above the entire year's target of 5.5%.
In September itself, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the city moved up by 1.5% and a 1.5% increase in the food subgroup index was a major contributor to the increase in the all-item CPI.
According to a press release yesterday from the Bureau of Statistics, there was a 19.5% increase in the price of vegetables. Higher prices were also recorded for kerosene by 18.9%, gasoline 7.1%, mini-bus fares ten percent and private tuition fees 18.2%.
Though all indications earlier in the year pointed to a higher rate of inflation than the projected 5.5% for the year, the government has not officially revised the projection.
