Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter by Mr Sohan Jaikaran captioned "I have a dream" (11.4.2002).
For decades we have indulged ourselves in wishful thinking stopping at our dreams, utopian hopes and ideas.
Confucius once said, "instead of cursing the dark light a candle," Mr Jaikaran, instead of dreaming of a better future, let us as the future generation step up to the plate and create a better future for ourselves and our fellow countrymen.
The utopian dream that President Jagdeo and Mr. Hoyte will one day embrace each other in brotherly love will not supersede the efforts of youths such as ourselves, who dare to pick up the torch of righteous political dreams and light the cauldron of righteous political achievements. For we must remember the wise words of Benjamin Franklin who said that "well done is better than well said". Both President Jagdeo and Mr. Hoyte presently fall in the category of "well said." Please don't follow suit, my friend.
You want a better government; let us work towards creating a better government so that one-day we may embrace each other in political triumph along with the rest of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Lester D. Paul
