Way cleared for Donna McKinnon inquest

CHIEF Justice Carl Singh has made absolute a previously granted order nisi clearing the way for an inquest to be held into the circumstances surrounding the April 9, 2001 death of Donna McKinnon.

The mother of seven was shot and killed in Robb Street during protest demonstrations in Georgetown following the March general elections.

The February 21 grant, resulting from an application by Soffina Solomon, directs the Commissioner of Police to forthwith cause a report, relating to the unnatural death of McKinnon, to be made to the Chief Magistrate in accordance with the Coroner’s Act.

The Chief Justice further ordered that the Chief Magistrate hold the inquiry upon receipt of the report.
