THE Police Force has expressed disapproval at statements in the TV programme `Prime News' report on Monday last, and video footage shown on `Wake up Guyana' with Basil Bradshaw yesterday morning, "to the effect that the body of the deceased Wesley Hendricks a.k.a. `Little Mate', was tampered with prior to an autopsy".

Hendricks was shot dead by law enforcement ranks when they visited his Princess Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown home on May 10.

Police said they had received information that one of the February 23 escapees was in Hendricks' house. When they forced open his bedroom door, the Police said a gunshot rang out and a member of the Police party discharged rounds mortally wounding Hendricks.

"The Force wishes to state that no evidence of tampering of the body was seen by the two pathologists who performed the autopsy or anyone who was present at the time including a brother of the deceased. Additionally, one of the pathologists was retained by the relatives of the deceased", a Police statement said.

The Police said the autopsy revealed that Hendricks died of shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot wounds.

"We call on media houses to act responsibly rather than publishing misinformation, which could seriously affect the integrity of the Guyana Police Force", the statement said.

The Police said "any attempt to mislead the public by sensationalising an issue, particularly when the true facts of that issue are not revealed, may only serve to fuel activities aimed at affecting peace and stability".

"The Guyanese society can well do without these irresponsible and malicious utterances", Police said.
