Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez, will definitely be visiting Guyana this year according to his Foreign Minister, Luis Alfonso Davila, who hosted a joint press conference with his Guyanese counterpart, Rudy Insanally, on Tuesday at the Foreign Service Institute.

He told reporters that the timing of the visit would be decided by Presidents Chavez and Bharrat Jagdeo, either when they met in Mexico at the conference on Financing for Development or at the meeting of South American Presidents in Ecuador. There was also a possibility of a meeting between the two at the Rio Group Summit in Costa Rica, according to the agreed minutes of the Commission aigned on Tuesday between Davila and Insanally.

President Chavez accepted an invitation to visit Guyana when he and President Jagdeo met in Cuba for the South Summit in 2000.
