Miss Guyana Mia Rahaman has had an offer from a New York magazine to appear on its cover.
She confirmed yesterday in an interview with Stabroek News that Smooth Magazine had approached her and Miss Jamaica, Sanya Hughes, to appear on its cover.
Quizzed about the Puerto Rico experience in what was her final interview before the big night tonight, Mia said it was rough. "I have learnt discipline.
If you are anything like me and like your freedom then you would find this confining. There is a certain time that you have to be up and things like that."
Asked about her final interview with the Miss Universe judges, Mia said they asked her what was the best part of her country, what her diet was like, what type of music she listens to, about her bike racing promotion business, "and Oh! What is one thing about me that I would like to improve.
I said that I'm quite comfortable in my skin but I would love to improve my education."
Mia thinks that she did very well in the interviews. She was not nervous. She said that the interviewers liked her style because she was frank and was herself.
Questioned about whether she had done any interviews with any of the Puerto Rican newspapers, Mia said: "No. As a matter of fact I avoided them since I knew that when this is all over they will be after me."
Mia said that she had picked her top ten and they are: Guyana, the US Virgin Islands, Northern Marianas, Greece, the Netherlands, Namibia, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Israel and South Africa, "not necessarily in this order," she added.
Mia says she has maintained her never-say-die attitude. She is not bothered by much, stays positive and still favours her chances.
She never talks about not making it and promises to walk proud. "My life will still go on. Of course it would be a boost to me if I get there but then again just being here is a plus," she said about being in the top ten.
Monday night she met the runners-up in the Miss Guyana Pageant who had arrived to support her, and a contingent of more than 25 Guyanese, which included her relatives.
She said she was very excited to see Petal De Santos, Asha Pieters, Shammane Joseph and Olivia Browne.
Mia said she misses Guyana. Asked whether she had anything to say to Guyana, she said: "Just stay tuned on May 29."
