THE People's Progressive Party (PPP) yesterday said some media houses have been trying to cause confusion and were seeking to influence decisions at its 27th Congress opening in Port Mourant, Berbice today.

In a statement, it said it welcomes media interest in its activities, adding that this has been facilitated by hosting press conferences, interviews and issuing press releases.

But it charged that "mischievous and misleading comments and letters written by persons purporting to be members of the party are intended for a purpose other than to inform the public."

"While the Stabroek News and (TV) Channels Nine and Six are at times reluctant to give the PPP adequate media coverage, they seem to have no hesitation in misrepresenting and even distorting issues with the sole aim of causing confusion and seeking to influence the deliberations of Congress", the statement said.

"Membership will certainly take note of these hostile postures from these media outlets that are not known for treating the party fairly in their editorials and reportage," the PPP said.

The statement added that attempts to create disunity and confusion will be rejected by the Congress, the party's membership and supporters.

"The PPP will continue to support media interest in its activities and will facilitate these once it is done in a fair and responsible manner," it said.
