The event was the Miss Guyana Talented Teens 2002 motorcade.
However, it was a disappointment as there was no accompanying steelband as promised. It was just a motorcade carried along with popular music.
Before it started, each delegate was presented with a 'Soft N Silky’ T-shirt and the same brand of shampoo and conditioner from Jed Enterprise.
The delegates put on their T-shirts and wrapped their heads with Western Union headties carrying the Guyana flag, and headed for the road.
Leading the entourage were Miss Talented Teen 2002 Ulex Atwell and Miss Talented Teen 2001 Asha Pieters. Executive Producer of the Pageant, Pamela Dillon, joined them on the horse-drawn cart.
Behind, a beautiful coach, with a nicely decorated horse in gold heels, carried some of the delegates.
The other contestants were either on a van or on car tops belonging to their sponsors.
Cute little assistants, male and female, helped in distributing posters of the pageant and also to give away Western Union bandanas.
The motorcade was the final activity to whip up last minute interest and ticket sales for the August 31st pageant billed for the National Cultural Centre.
The girls have had four months of pageant perfection training, which included stage presentation, platform research, skin care, personal grooming and spiritual empowerment.
Activities for the pageant included a cotillion on July 13 and the launching ceremony and cocktail sip on July 28.
The delegates were also taken on education tours.
On the Corentyne, they visited the Katryan Drop-In Centre. At Linden, they went to the Rehabilitation Centre and the Blue Water Lake. In Georgetown, the stop was at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, while in Essequibo, they visited the New Opportunity Corp. The delegates also visited the Mahaica Children's Orphanage.
On pageant night, Miss Pieters will feature in the opening dance sequence.
There will be the swimsuit, evening gown and talent competitions.
In addition to the prizes that will go to the winner and runners-up, each of the competing delegates will receive a $20,000 educational award.
