The President was speaking in a televised message to be broadcast in the United States on the first anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on that country.
He expressed his sympathy, solidarity and support and that of the Guyanese people to the American Embassy on the deaths of thousands of Americans in the vicious attacks on that fateful day last year.
The President also reminded that there were many Guyanese who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center buildings in New York and he told the many Guyanese abroad who lost dear and loved ones that the people of Guyana share in their grief.
President Jagdeo underlined the commitment of the Guyana Government in the fight against worldwide terrorism by declaring that the Government is joining all the peace-loving nations of the world to put in place measures to prevent and deter the scourge of terrorism in the future.
The Guyana Government is collaborating fully with the American Government on this matter, and the loss of Guyanese lives abroad is felt dearly in this country.
The President also addressed the present crime situation in Guyana and remarked that a number of factors are working together to increase criminal activity here.
He allowed that many Guyanese abroad are worried about the situation back home because of their families and relatives still living in this country, but he assured his Guyanese North American audience that the Government is doing all that is possible to resolve the situation.
On September 11 last year, the United States suffered a series of terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center and on the Pentagon, the United States military headquarters.
More than 3,000 people, many of them Guyanese nationals, died in those attacks which were condemned around the world.
Guyana also joined the international community in adding its voice of condemnation of those vicious attacks. (Government Information Agency - GINA)
