POLICE Commissioner Floyd McDonald yesterday confirmed he had received a letter from Chief Magistrate Ms. Juliet Holder-Allen in which she "claimed that a Police Sergeant allegedly provided information to her in relation to threats on her life."

In a press release, Police said the Commissioner received the letter at 14:00 hrs on Tuesday.

"On receipt of the document, an investigation was immediately launched. The Sergeant in a written statement claimed that he was by the Stabroek Market when he allegedly heard a conversation carried on by two men who said that they heard that the Government was planning to have the Chief Magistrate assassinated", the press release said.

It said McDonald has assured the Chief Magistrate that investigations into the matter would be done.

"The Guyana Police Force will pursue the investigation with a great degree of seriousness as other reports of similar nature.

"Security has since been provided for the Chief Magistrate", the release said.

It added that the Guyana Police Force stands committed at all times to providing all necessary security arrangements for the personal safety of the Chief Magistrate as well as any other member of the magistracy or the judiciary.

"On two occasions earlier in the year, offers were made to the Chief Magistrate to provide her with residential security, but these offers were not accepted at that time", the Police said.
