"While the criminals have targeted persons of different races, it is an undisputed fact that Indo-Guyanese have faced the brunt of these criminal and murderous crimes", the main partner in the governing PPP/Civic alliance said in a statement.
The crime situation, in the context of the more recent gruesome acts of murders, was the subject of a comprehensive analysis at a special session of the PPP Executive Committee on Friday, it reported.
The PPP said it has agreed that it will continue to use all its influence to assist the law enforcement agencies to flush out the criminals from what they consider to be safe villages, including Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
"The party also supports the Government's moves to enhance the crime fighting capabilities of the security forces both in the long- and short-terms", the statement said.
It added that the statement by President Bharrat Jagdeo that the security of the people and the State will remain the priority for the Government was most welcome.
"The party will give all its support in this endeavour and call upon citizens to co-operate fully. At the end of the day, it is the law enforcement agencies that must bring back law and order.
"In this regard, the Government has committed all the resources - financial, material, manpower and legislative - to ensure the effectiveness of these efforts", the statement said.
According to the PPP, the Executive Committee and its various arms "will continue to deliberate on, take and propose various initiatives, including political in the current situation so as to ensure the safety and security of our people and their property."
"We urge the Guyanese people to support the law enforcement agencies and to take necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of their persons and property", the party added.
