PUBLIC Service Minister, Ms. Jennifer Westford yesterday said her ministry has not given any official permission for Public Servants to be part of a call for a two-day shutdown beginning today by some sections of the society.

In a brief statement at her Georgetown office, she made it categorically clear that all Public Servants "are to be on duty and all Government offices will be open for business between 08:00 -16:30 hrs."

Public Servants who are absent without genuine reasons will be disciplined, she said, but refrained from identifying any specific disciplinary actions, only saying this will be done in accordance with the laid down procedures of the Public Service.

She issued a call for politicians to come together to find solutions to the present crime problem and pleaded with the perpetrators of criminal activities to "allow citizens to go about their daily lives and activities in peace and without fear."

The minister also urged the business community to come up with a "concise and comprehensive plan" to deal with the spate of criminal activities currently facing the nation.
