Head of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon, who made the announcement at his weekly news conference last week, said she will call on administrators of the educational institutions where the Guyanese are enrolled.
Since the recent departure of a batch of more than 100 scholars who are studying in Cuba, reports said some raised concerns and Minister Westford, who also studied there, is going to look at them.
Meantime, Luncheon disclosed that Cabinet has been examining proposals for 2003/2004 academic year scholarship awards.
He said it has been proposed that, among other things, much emphasis should be on training in the fields of science, technology and health, especially in the areas of physical medicine and rehabilitation, agriculture and engineering.
But scholarships are continuing to be sought in the sport and culture sectors, as the awards from Cuba and elsewhere are not restricted to any sector, be it governmental or otherwise, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.
GINA said the role of the many agencies involved in the administration of scholarship awards was re-examined and a call has been made for efforts to address identified deficiencies.
