A deeply distraught Mrs. Paula McAdam yesterday told the Chronicle that a report that persons in Buxton were shot at by persons in her son's car, has sparked misery for the family.
She is maintaining that the group was not shot at by persons in her son's car.
To the contrary, it was her son's car that was shot at by another in a drive-by shooting on the Buxton public road on Tuesday, she said.
McAdam said that her son and nephew were followed by another car since they were in the vicinity of Success, East Coast Demerara.
She said that when they reached Annandale, persons in the other car began firing on them and diverted soon after.
The McAdams' car was hit by bullets, she said.
According to her, the angry Buxton residents, believing that the shots had come from her son's car, chased after it, and traced it to her home.
The angry group reported their claims to an Army patrol, and in a joint Army/Police operation, a thorough search was made of the home, she said.
The ranks were able to verify that the McAdams' car had been shot at and damaged, she said.
However, she said that later in the afternoon, her house was shot at, and a grenade hurled through a window, shattering the panes and water connections.
She said they were also threatened that their house would be set afire.
Following these reports, the family members hurriedly packed a few items of clothing and other personal effects and were escorted to safety by the Army and Police, McAdam said.
Yesterday they were accompanied to the house by the Police, but did not stay there longer than a few minutes.
McAdam said the family is deeply troubled, since they cannot be sure that the persons who stalked and shot at their car on Tuesday were no longer seeking them out with intent to harm them.
And on the other hand, they may now be in trouble with the group from Buxton that was wrongly led to believe that they had shot at them, she said.
