Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) Dr. Roger Luncheon at his weekly post-Cabinet press briefing Wednesday told the media that Cabinet at its last meeting reviewed the plan and was in agreement with it, but called for the inclusion of a hospice for HIV patients.
"Cabinet at its meeting on November 12 endorsed the strategic plan. Minister Ramsammy highlighted the latest components of the plan, which would see surveillance, care, treatment and support, risk reduction and management dealt with. Minister Ramsammy was optimistic about financing, and Cabinet noted the provision of anti-retroviral drugs by a local pharmaceutical firm to the HIV/AIDS patients," Dr Luncheon said.
He continued: "Cabinet called for an inclusion in the plan for the construction of a hospice for AIDS patients and a financial strategy to be established by the sector to make the deliverables to be undertaken from 2002--2006 to be realised."
