He said the measures should be reasonable and realistic for both business and private premises.
The Commissioner, who met officials of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry last Friday, assured that steps are being taken to address their concerns and stated that despite the setbacks the Force had suffered in recent times, it remains resolute in its commitment to execute its mandate in maintaining law and order in Guyana, a Police press release said.
It said that President of the Chamber, Mr Edward Boyer led a delegation to meet the Commissioner and other top Police officials to ascertain what security measures the Force would be taking during the Christmas season.
At the meeting were Deputy Commissioner Winston Felix, Assistant Commissioners Henry Greene and David George, Crime Chief Leon Trim, and Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent David Ramnarine.
The Chamber also wants to support the Police in their fight to contain crime, the release said.
Commander of 'A' Division, Mr D.L George outlined a number of measures that the Force has currently implemented including 24-hours foot and mobile patrols, deployment of foot and vehicular patrols in and around the City with specific emphasis in commercial districts, institution of measures to ensure that owners and operators of entertainment houses adhere to the opening and closing hours as stipulated in the licence, and intensifying of traffic control activities, especially in the busy commercial zones.
Members of the Chamber expressed individual concerns which were addressed by the Commissioner. These included the prevalence of squibs, issuing of firearm licences, and petty thefts in commercial districts.
The Chamber's President emphasised the business sector's commitment to support the Police in whatever way it could.
