Information Liaison to the President and Member of the PPP/C Delegation to the Joint Consultation, Robert Persaud, has said that the PPP/C delegation will be going into the meeting with the genuine desire to support the Social Partners' effort to achieve consensus on a crime communique that represents the sentiments of all Guyanese.
Spokesman for the Social Partners, Dr. Peter deGroot, has been informed of the PPP/C's participation in Monday's meeting.
Said Persaud: "That the Social Partners have moved in this direction, having their draft communique of November 8 rejected by the PNC/R, is a result of a significant departure by Congress Place from its earlier submission to, and discussion with the Social Partners."
He noted that a review of the evolution of the November 8, 2002 Social Partners' Draft Communique, will confirm a significant departure by the PNC/ R from its original position, adding that several of its amendments are irrelevant, and suggest they were included to hinder the Social Partners' Initiative to achieve early consensus on a crime communique.
Persaud assured that the PPP/C will continue to support the Social Partners as they seek to reach consensus (as it hopes will happen), noting this has been the long stated objective of the Party -to achieve true national cooperation in the fight against crime.
