The signing, at the Ministry, in Wight’s Lane, Kingston, Georgetown, preceded the funding by Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), as part of the Government of Guyana Air Transport Reform Programme.
The project will be started on March 18, 2003 and Public Relations Consultant to the Ministry, Mr. Ajay Baksh said the contractor will be responsible for, among other things, repairs and replacing asphalt before overlaying with between one and three layers of concrete on the runway surface and upgrading the lights on it.
Following the inking of the deal is nine weeks of mobilisation for the construction scheduled to take eight weeks.
The undertaking includes one year of maintenance after the project has been declared substantially complete.
Airport Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Leon Romero said regular flight schedules will be interrupted while men are working on runway but the airlines have been advised of the development and agreed to review their plans to facilitate the rehabilitation.
