The Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA) is calling for an urgent resumption of the political dialogue with an invitation to former US President Jimmy Carter to act as facilitator and mediator.

A release from the Berbice Chamber also called on all responsible groups and individuals to reflect on and consider carefully the undesirable consequences of the July 3 protest which had turned violent.

The Berbice business association is urging the consideration of the "incalculable harm which our unstable political and social climate has done and will continue to do for the prospects of attracting new investments to provide job opportunities for young people."

The release stated that the BCCDA unreservedly endorses and supports the views already expressed by the organisation's president, Ramesh Maraj, the Private Sector Commission, and the Association of Regional Chambers of Commerce.

Further, the BCCDA said it "joins with the other right thinking and responsible voices in condemning in the strongest possible terms the unseemly and unwarranted invasion of the Office of the President by an unruly mob" on July 3, which led to the death of two persons, injuries to several others, and considerable loss through muggings, and damage to properties by looting and fire.
