Cell phone, camera found in Benschop's cell - Police investigating

Police at the Brickdam Police Station were yesterday investigating how a cellular phone and a video camera got into the cell of controversial talk show host, Mark Benschop who is in custody in relation to various matters.

Stabroek News understands that the two items were discovered in Benschop's cell yesterday.

It is understood that while no one has been taken into custody ranks are investigating a number of their colleagues who might have been instrumental in the items being carried into Benschop's cell.

Benschop has been in custody since last Thursday after he made a court appearance and was made to answer several charges in relation to the illegal protest on July 3.

That protest had resulted in the storming of the Office of the President and the shooting to death of two protesters.

While Benschop was granted bail he was taken back into custody as the police continued investigations into the incidents on that date.

Reports say that the cellular phone and video camera were in Benschop's possession at the time of his arrest and had been handed over to a relative
