Jagdeo tops list at PPP Congress vote

President Bharrat Jagdeo topped the list of persons elected to the new Central Committee (CC) of the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) as its 27th congress concluded yesterday at Port Mourant, Berbice.
A press release from the party yesterday said that the congress concluded “on a positive and high note with more than 700 delegates and observers reaffirming their commitment and loyalty to the party”. At the previous congress in 1998, Jagdeo had placed third behind then President Janet Jagan and Moses Nagamootoo.
The new faces on the CC are Crops Minister Satyadeow Sawh, Education Ministry Permanent Secretary Hydar Ally, Pauline Sukhai, Fizul Jafferally, Zulphikar Mustapha and Ulric Ramanah.
The 35th member - who would also be new to the committee - is to be decided later following a tie between Eddie Rodney and Jewan Persaud.
Those off of the committee are Parag Sukhai, Khemraj Rai, Gerald Beaton, Marco De Souza and Isahak Basir. Two others, former trade minister Michael Shree Chan and Fazal Ally passed away.
The full list is as follows: Preisdent Bharrat Jagdeo, Navin Chanderpal, Roger Luncheon, Gail Teixeira, Donald Ramotar, Janet Jagan, Ralph Ramkarran, Clement Rohee, Satyadeow Sawh, Reepu Daman Persaud, Moses Nagamootoo, Indra Chandarpal, Feroze Mohamed, Clinton Collymore, Harripersaud Nokta, Bheri Ramsarran, Komal Chand, Robert Persaud, Dr Motilall, Khemraj Ramjattan, Hydar Ally, Ali Baksh, Philomena Sahoye-Shury, Kellawan Lall, Cyril Belgrave, Neil Kumar, Harrinarine Baldeo, Premchand Dass, Pauline Sukhai, Fizul Jafferally, Zulphikar Mustapha, Ulric Ramanah, Shirley Edwards and Rohit Persaud.
The release said that a media briefing will be held shortly to apprise the public of the outcome of the congress which was held at the JC Chandisingh Secondary School.
