Woman elected President of Essequibo Lions

The Essequibo Lions Club has elected its new executive members for 2002/2003 with Shelima Barakat as its new President.
The first vice-president is Kennard Sahadeo, second vice-president Jainarine Singh and third vice president Hillary Young. The secretary is Herman Persaud (Timo), and the treasurer Tappel Singh. The new directors are Deokumar Dalchan, Kishore Gobin, Samuel Arjoon and Bernard Young. Tamer is Sammy Rampersaud, Mayor of Anna Regina and the PRO is Ameer Baksh.
According to Baksh, the club will be hosting eye clinics and by February 2003 some 2000 Essequibians are expected to benefit from free eye tests and spectacles. He also informed that the club would hold its annual fair and Sari Pageant on September 9th at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground. He said that medical and other public-oriented projects would utilise income generated by fundraisers.
