Stage set for West Indies women's cricket tourney

The Guyana Cricket Board is ready to cope with the staging of the 2002 West Indies women's cricket tournament which bowls off in Georgetown with three matches next week Tuesday.
At a press briefing yesterday the media was updated about the GCB's preparations for a successful staging of the tournament which will involve Jamaica, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and St Lucia.
Hosts Guyana will oppose St Lucia at the GCC, Bourda ground in the first round in one of three matches which will be played at city venues. The other matches will see Trinidad and Tobago playing Dominica at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground in Queenstown and St Vincent and the Grenadines opposing Grenada at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
The Jamaicans, who have drawn the bye in the first round, are expected in tomorrow. On Monday evening from 6pm there will be a welcome reception at GCC. The Guyana selectors yesterday named 14 players for the tournament.
The team will be led by Abeena Parker and the other members are
Faye Franklyn, vice-captain, Darlene Gale, Deowanti Persaud, Indomatie Gordial, Annabelle Lewis, Inga Henry, Tracy Miller, Tracy Glasgow, Natasha Gangoo, Onika Wallerson, Candace Atkins, Stacy Williams and Michelle Fitzalbert. The coach is Kenalyn Baker and the manager Viola Rowe.
Meanwhile the Guyana women's cricket team yesterday received a quantity of Shoo mosquito repellent from the Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation. The women cricketers are currently staying at the Cyril Potter College of Education.
