Legendary Brazilian striker Pele may be a part of string of football celebrities scheduled to be in Guyana as part of the Guyana Football Federation's celebration of the 100th anniversary of organised football in Guyana. GFF president Colin Klass said at a press conference yesterday that negotiations are being held to bring former German captain Franz Beckenbauer and France's Michel Platini to be a part of the celebrations. The anniversary will be observed in October and the GFF is organising a four-way football tournament which will involve two overseas teams. "To commemorate the one hundred years of the introduction of football into Guyana the GFF will hold one month of activity. We have planned a four-way tournament which will include two teams from Guyana, and one from Suriname and another one of our neighbours," Klass said. "International renowned players from Europe who are supposed to be in this area during that time. There is also a proposed visit from King Pele during that period," the GFF president said. Klass said that word is being awaited from Pele's sponsors Master Card on if he would be able to make the visit.
