Melesa Archer, 20 - Delegate #3
‘I will win the pageant because I am focused, disciplined and a well-rounded person. Also, I can showcase our Guyanese culture, by outlining its significance, such as the tourism industry and the friendliness of our people, our hospitality. And there is also the diversity of our culture. I am a unique individual. I am very simple, caring, forgiving and I am a determined young woman who is ready to fulfil one of my goals as an ambassador for my country, Guyana.’
Candida Telles, 22, - Delegate #10
‘I am smart, my talent is my intelligence as well as my inner beauty. I am mixed with all the races that make up our country, which I will take to Miss World and showcase Guyana’s diversity. I portray a lot of confidence and I have confidence that I will win. I expect to do well in the intelligence segment. I think I have improved. I am a lot better since training for the pageant; I am a better person. I am more elegant, I carry myself like a young lady and I have more confidence in myself, that’s why I will win.
Samantha Crandon, 22, - Delegate #5
‘Yes, I will win. I have so much in store to give to the people of Nigeria (where the pageant will be held). There’s my country, my people, their religions, beliefs and culture; for example, or I could tell them about the different resources we have or the hospitality of the people of the country. And I have confidence, intelligence, poise and beauty, which is why I will win not only the crown, but the confidence of the judges and of my people.’
Odessa Phillips, 19, - Delegate #2
“I think I will win the pageant because I possess the attributes of a titleholder, a queen. I am poised, elegant, disciplined and I am a humble person. Although I am the youngest of the bunch, this is the second time I have been involved in pageantry and I have experience.
I think all the girls are beautiful and the competition is stiff. It’s going to take a lot of discipline, that’s the only way, and I think I am disciplined enough.’
Marceline Basdeo, 23 - Delegate #6
‘Besides being beautiful, intelligent and fitting all the requirements of Miss Guyana World, I have a humanitarian quality. I have a pleasant personality, I am well groomed, poised, and a rounded individual. And I am humble, thoughtful, considerate, and disciplined enough to win the Miss Guyana World crown.’
Ryiela Gaffar, 20, - Delegate #1
‘I know I will win, because I am confident enough to know I can represent my country. I am capable of doing it. I can sell myself and my country to the people in Nigeria. I am beautiful, I am intelligent, and I can succeed as long as I carry myself well and show the people I am confident enough. I know myself and I have the self-esteem which will take me there.’
Marita Persaud, 23, Delegate #7
‘I will win because I am confident and I believe in myself. I know that I can do whatever Miss Guyana World requires. I am prepared to represent my country and I believe in myself enough to know that I can be successful in Nigeria. Though I think Odessa [Phillips] stands a good chance of winning, if I don’t win, I do expect to win. I am doing my best and whatever the judges decide will be fine.’
Ali Williams, 20, - Delegate #4
‘Yes I am hoping to win. The reason being, I have everything it takes to be a queen. I am beautiful, intelligent, and I have a great personality. I am also somewhat of a humanitarian, and I am working very hard. I have always felt that if you put 100% into something, you get 100% in return, and I am putting everything into this pageant. I would love to be given the opportunity to prove to my country that I can represent the Guyanese people and make them proud. If I am given the opportunity, I will represent the Miss Guyana crown and I will make them proud by winning the Miss World crown.’
Danielle McIntyre, 22, - Delegate #8
‘I will win and even if I don’t, I will certainly be one of the runners-up for the crown. Either the first or second. I am a very dedicated person and I think I have what it takes, I possess all of the attributes, which are needed for someone to win such a pageant. Determination, you have to be very focused, I am a very focused person. And besides intelligence and beauty, though I think all the girls are beautiful, you have to have a nice personality and I think I have a nice personality, I’m approachable, I have what it takes to be a winner.
You have to be a very cultured person, active, and I possess all those qualities. I am the type of person who works hard towards my goal and I know what I am going up for. If it takes sleepless nights, I am prepared because I am a queen by heart and everyone can look forward to seeing the best from me.’
