Poor attendance again afflicted the continuing public consultation on crime organised by the National Steering Committee on Tuesday when a meeting was held for retired officers of the disciplined services.
Tuesday's consultation attracted only a small group of retired officers at the Legionnaires' Hall, Carifesta Avenue.
During the meeting, there were presentations by Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant Commander, Gary Best, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe, who highlighted the work done by their respective groups, in support of the police and in the fight against crime, respectively.
Following their presentations, members of the media were unceremoniously asked to leave to facilitate the ensuing discussions after some in attendance expressed objections to the media's presence. Twenty-five public consultations are being held throughout the country. They are intended to inform the public on measures being employed by the state in response to the crime situation, solicit suggestions and involve stakeholders in a national response.
