Work has begun on refining proposals for the consideration of the parliamentary parties, which met the Social Partners last week at Le Meridien Pegasus.

At the initial meetings with President Bharrat Jagdeo, Opposition Leader, Desmond Hoyte and representatives of the PNCR, the PPP/C, ROAR, The United Force and the Working People’s Alliance, the Social Partners group presented its recommendations for improving the governance of the country.
The recommendations included suggestions for short-, medium- and long-term measures that should be undertaken achieve this end and to address the serious crime situation in the country. Following these meetings, the Social Partners convened the joint consultation last week.
President Jagdeo, despite a threat not to attend if GTUC General Secretary, Lincoln Lewis was present, attended with a team of government officials.
Hoyte and representatives of the PNCR, and representatives of the TUF, WPA and ROAR, led respectively by Trade Minister Manzoor Nadir, and parliamentarian Sheila Holder and Ravi Dev were also at the meeting.
