The crime consultation sessions have had good responses from the communities despite poor attendance, and according to a media release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) the consultations are to be extended to September 23.
GINA said that at his post-cabinet media briefing at the Office of the President last week, Cabinet Secretary Roger Luncheon disclosed that as a result of the small attendance at the target group consultations, the steering committee had decided to extend the period of consultation into the week of September 23. Luncheon explained that the extension of time would facilitate a second opportunity being given to earlier planned consultations that had attracted poor responses and have to be repeated. The release further stated that it was noted that the question and answers period of the consultations and the filling out of questionnaires provided an excellent opportunity to assess citizens' reactions, concerns and their views on the current crime-fighting tactics of the law enforcement agency.
