Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis’ scheduled come back fight has been postponed indefinitely due to an injury sustained by the former WBA welterweight champion while training on Monday.
Lewis’ manager Nelson Fernandez confirmed yesterday that the 31-year-old pulled a groin muscle while jogging and has been scratched from the October 12 card scheduled for Arrow-head point in California.
“His injury is a simple pulled groin muscle. He tripped while running and his physician Dr. Steven Clarke advised us to rest it for 14 days or so,” Fernandez said.
The fight was originally scheduled for October 5 on the Floyd Mayweather versus Jose Luis Castillio card. No opponent was named. The bout would have been the Guyanese first since losing his title to Ricardo Mayorga in March.
“It’s a simple injury but very painful. Please don’t worry `Six’ is a warrior,” Fernandez said and added that as soon as Lewis feels better he will be back in the ring.
“We will resume training and then we are to advise Top Rank (our promoter) to have `Six’ scheduled for another fight card. The southpaw, Lewis, nicknamed `The Albouystown Cyclone’ won Guyana’s first world boxing title after a seven round beating of James Page in February last year.
