Guyanese Wayne Braithwaite landed in Italy Thursday night and wasted little time in getting himself familiar with the local media.
His trainer Colin Morgan said that the `Big Truck’ was a hit at a press conference held the following day in Milan where he assured all and sundry that the World Boxing Council cruiserweight belt is heading to South America after Friday.
According to Morgan the loquacious Braithwaite maintained that although he has not fought since November and had to endure a string of postponements he will be crowned champion.
“Wayne explained that he trained hard and long and was fully ready.” The undefeated Braithwaite clashes with the twice defeated Italian Vincenzo Cantatore on Friday for the vacant WBC cruiserweight title.
“We went to gym on Friday afternoon did some shadow boxing, pad work, double end bag and jump rope exercises. That would be our routine for the rest of the week,” Morgan added.
“Wayne says hello to all Guyana and sends a special Big Up to Plaisance. He wants Guyana to know that he would not let his country down. He will be bringing the title home.”
Braithwaite, who was accompanied to Italy by Morgan and Maurice `Bizzy’ Boyce will see his entourage increase tomorrow when his mother Claire arrives from New York.
