President Bharrat Jagdeo has signed into law the four anti-crime bills passed in the National Assembly on September 26.
A press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said that Information Liaison Officer to the President, Robert Persaud made this disclosure yesterday.
The four laws: the Racial Hostility Bill, the Criminal Law (Offences) (Amend-ment) Bill, the Evidence Bill and the Prevention of Crimes Amendment Bill were passed on September 26 after a four and a half hour debate in the National Assembly.
The bills which attracted criticism from several quarters including the opposition PNC/R were passed with the intention of arresting the upsurge in crime over the last few months.
