The eighth witness for the State took the stand yesterday when the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge of treason against Mark Benschop and Phillip Bynoe continued.
Superintendent of Police Michael Harlequin, stationed at Traffic Headquarters, delivered his testimony and was briefly cross-examined by the defence.
Earlier, the defence completed its cross-examination of Presidential Guard Rabindranauth Mohal, during which there were some objections by the prosecution to what they characterised as presuppositions conveyed in the questions being asked by the lead counsel for the defence, Basil Williams. Responding to the objections, attorney for the defence Mortimer Coddette noted that the presuppositions were merely intended to clarify what was the truth. The magistrate in his ruling subsequently allowed Williams’ questions.
The inquiry is to continue today when the State is expected to present its ninth witness.
