Organisers slammed for faulty security measures

The organisers of yesterday's Gavin Narine International race meeting at the South Dakota circuit has been criticised as being reactive instead of pro-active.
"I think they should have been more security measures in place. The organisers can be blamed for being more reactive rather than pro-active. They should have seen this coming," a spectator told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
"I think now that this has happened they will look to put in place measures such as tyres on the fences to cushion the impacts of out of control vehicles etc." the fan pointed out.
"As a body they (the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club) must shoulder the blame. The sand is only about 15 feet away from the fence which is made of wire mesh and is not very strong," he added.
"The crowds are also too close to the track while the absence of loose gravel, a special type of soil, which slows down speeding vehicles considerably, could have prevented the car from crashing into the fence."
He suggested that for future meets the organisers should look at having more medical staff and if possible a helicopter to air dash injured persons to Georgetown.
