World Boxing Association and International Boxing Association junior welterweight champion ‘Vicious’ Vivian Harris has parted ways with the Lou Duva camp and has signed a three-year managerial contract with Shelly Finkle.
Speaking with Stabroek Sports yesterday Harris said that the deal was sealed last week and he is looking forward to a long and fruitful reign.
Previously the 24-year-old was managed by both Luo Duva and Finkle. The last contract lasted four years. Finkle is an adviser for former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
The gangly Harris stunned the international boxing fraternity when he took only two rounds to dispose of then champion Diobelys Hurtardo on October 19 in Houston, Texas.
Harris yesterday confirmed that he will be arriving in Guyana on Thursday along with World Boxing Council cruiserweight champion Wayne `Big Truck’ Braithwaite.
The hard-punching Braithwaite became the first Guyanese this year to win a world title when he stopped Italian Vincenzo Cantatore n round 10 on October 11.
“I’m really happy at the thought of returning home,” Harris said. Guyana is my country and the titles belong to every Guyanese,” the Harris said.
His entourage includes his father Herman, brother Conroy, two trainers Lennox Blackmoore and Delon Parsley, two representatives of Main Events and security personnel.
Harris will be in Guyana for seven days before he returns to his adopted home for training. North American Airlines has provided both the Harris and Braithwaite camp with a number of tickets.
The airline extended the same facilities to Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis after he won the WBA welterweight in 2001.
Meanwhile, Harris was feted on Sunday at a victory party held at the Spring Garden Disco in Brooklyn, New York.
