The Queen's College auditorium should be finished in six weeks once a shipment of steel is released from customs, according to a joint statement issued by the Queen's College Board of Governors (QCBOG).
The statement, signed by Chairman Ronald Alli and issued on behalf of the Queen's College Parent Teachers' Association (QCPTA) and the Queen's College Old Students' Association (QCOSA) said the steel, which was imported by the contractor, was on the wharf.
He said as soon as the relevant documents were processed, the steel would be released and work on the auditorium would be completed within six weeks.
The delay in completing the auditorium resulted in a draft letter being circulated at a recent QCPTA meeting seeking the removal of the current board of governors. But Alli said that the board, the newly-elected executive of the QCPTA headed by Mike James, the headmistress Wendell Roberts and representatives of the teaching staff and representatives of QCOSA met on October 23. There the delay in the completion of the building was raised.
Alli said discussions were cordial and the support groups represented expressed their commitment to working towards the successful completion of the new structure and the satisfactory resolution of other issues as may arise.
He said the work on the auditorium would be reviewed as a normal agenda item at the monthly meeting of the board of governors on which the QCPTA, QCOSA, the Ministry of Education, the Guyana Teachers' Union and the management and staff of the school would be represented.
