The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) launched its website yesterday, coinciding with the 54th anniversary of the union being registered as an organisation.

The site, www.guyanapsu.org - developed by Wayne Farley, a former committee member of the GPSU - aims to make available information about the union to assist students, researchers and members.

Farley said in developing the site, the only expense encountered was that of time. The site is hosted by an overseas web server Go Daddy Software at a cost of $2,000 per month.

The new site features a home page and links to various organisations affiliated to the GPSU such as the International Labour Organisation. Featured on the site are pages on news, rules of the union, committees, policies, contact details and frequently asked questions with answers. There is also a message board where persons visiting the site can give their opinions and suggestions.

Later, the site is to have photo galleries, which will have important events of the union. It is also slated to have a page for all press releases issued by the union.

President of the GPSU, Patrick Yarde said the site came to fruition because of the commitment of members of the union. He said also that more persons in and out of Guyana could now learn more of the union's activities. He said the union intends to post financial statements on the site. The launching took place at the GPSU Headquarters at Regent and New Garden Streets.
