Agreement on the model for arbitration has been reached to resolve the public servants pay dispute for 2002 and nominations for the panel will be put forward tomorrow.

The model to be followed is similar to that which operated at the time of the 1999 Armstrong Arbitration Tribunal which subsequently awarded 31.6% and 26.6% hikes respectively for 1999 and 2000.

The government and the union are due to meet again tomorrow to work out who will be part of the panel of arbitrators to adjudicate on the wages dispute. Guyana Public Service Union President Patrick Yarde told Stabroek News yesterday he is optimistic that a positive outcome is possible at tomorrow's meeting.

According to Yarde, the parties discussed several issues at yesterday's meeting including a proposal for adoption of terms of reference, but these didn't find favour with the sides. Included on the agenda for discussion at tomorrow's meeting are the guidelines on what will engage the attention of adjudicators.
