The two children who were killed when a racing car crashed into the mini-bus they were in at the South Dakota Circuit two Sundays ago were cremated yesterday.

Dyna and Ashton De Souza, six and three years old respectively, of 22 Austin Street Campbellville perished at around 11:45 am last Sunday when Englishman David Brodie lost control of his Ford Cosworth Escort in the third lap of the first Group Three race causing him to careen through the chain-link fence.

The children along with their mother Basmattie De Souza, grandfather, Balwant Singh and cousins, Sandy and Keisha Singh and Azemon Azeez were all seated in a red nine-seater mini-bus owned by Singh just beyond the fence viewing the race.

With the exception of Balwant all of the other persons who were seated in the mini-bus were hospitalised. They have since been discharged.

Rohit Singh, uncle of the children, told Stabroek News that Basmattie underwent surgery last week and is recuperating well.

Singh also said that Brodie had met with the children's parents, Curtis and Basmattie, last week to offer his condolences on the accident.
