The collection of arrears rates and taxes in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has fallen far below the $110 million target.
Representatives from the five Neighbourhood Democratic Councils in the region are citing poor collection of outstanding rates and taxes for being unable to complete their work programmes.
Defaulters are being advised to pay up their outstanding amounts or face legal action.
During the presentation of reports on revenue and expenditure at Tuesday's statutory meeting, it was stated that the Evergreen/Paradise NDC collected a mere $8.7 million out of a targeted $55.9 million. The overseer said that Central Government had to come to the rescue of the council by paying salaries to employees who the council owed for some three months.
The reports indicated also that the Aberdeen/Zorg-en-Vlygt NDC collected $1.8 million out of an outstanding amount of $10.2 million, while the Annandale/Riverstown NDC collected $1.2 million out of a targeted $10.7 million. The Good Hope/Pomona NDC collected $1.6 million out of a targeted $11.6 million and the Charity/Urasara NDC collected a mere $607,000 out of its $1.5 million target.
