History will be made in Linden this evening when the Smart Touch Promotion in collaboration with Comfort Zone Taxi Service boxing card is held at the MSC ground.
For the first time ever in the mining town two female light heavyweight boxers will engage in battle.
One hundred and seventy five-pound Gwendolyn `The Stealth Bomber' O'Neil will put her unbeaten record at stake when she comes against Geraldine Cox in a four-round main supporting fight.
After her final work out yesterday afternoon O'Neil predicted that Cox wouldn't make it pass the second round. "I really don't want to destroy her but a gon beat she bad," O' Neil told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
"I really want to put on a good show for Linden and I will not let it go more than two rounds. I gon beat she so ban she gon forget how to cook food," the world rated O'Neil said. Included in her entourage is National Calypso champion VJ.
Cox is a food vendor on America Street. O'Neil is rated number two in the light heavyweight by the Women's International Boxing Association.
The main bout is an expected scorcher between junior welterweights `Classy' Cassius Matthews and Shawn Holder.
Matthews will be making his first appearance in the ring in his hometown against an opponent touted to be twice times as tough. Holder has been under the experienced eye of coach Lennox Daniels.
The coach, who also worked with O'Neil, predicted that it will be a close encounter with his charge coming out on top. On the other hand, Matthews who has lost once in five fights will be looking forward to the first knockout victory of his professional career.
World Boxing Council cruiserweight champion Wayne `Big Truck' Braithwaite expected to be a guest of honour at the card, has given the nod to Matthews who he claimed had more skill.
Stone-fisted undefeated bantamweight Leon Moore comes against Wayne Coates in another four-rounder. Moore is just off a second round knockout of Otis `The Wonder Boy' Zimmerman.
In other supporting matches Errol Trotman makes a return to the ring against Linden Arthur and Laurex Benn battles Devon Luke. The card was put together by former national junior welterweight champion Dillon Carew who is on a quest to keep the sport alive.
