Andrew `Six Head' Lewis climbed back on to the world title trail in fine style when he knocked out Mexican Oscar Delgado in the first round of a scheduled 10-rounder in Puerto Rico Friday night.
Speaking with Stabroek Sport hours after touching up the Mexican, Lewis said that his opponent was dropped with a combination to the body and was counted out at two minutes 38 seconds of the opening round.
"I was glad to get back into the ring and do my work. I'm now back to the old `Six Head' and I'm going back to get my world title," Lewis said.
Lewis' record improved to 22-1-1 with 20 victories coming by way of knockout.
His manager Nelson Fernandez opined that it was a very impressive performance and disclosed that Lewis aka `The Albouystown Cyclone' will challenge for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight title on February 8 in Las Vegas.
"It's a done deal we will be fighting champion Antonio Magarita on February 8. The fight will be shown on HBO," the manager said.
The 31-year-old Lewis will be back in the gym on Monday and will be encamped at the Fernwood Resort in Pennsylvania from January 1. Fernandez explained that the former world champion would not be taking a warm up fight before the championship bout.
"It's back to gym and then into encampment. We have already gotten sparring partners and all other things. `Six' is still the best welterweight in the world," Fernandez said.
The southpaw Lewis knocked out James Page in February of last year to become the first Guyanese fighting under the Golden Arrowhead to win a world title. The victory sparked unprecedented celebration in Guyana.
