The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the army of the People’s Republic of China have clinched a US$2M agreement for the supply of additional military kit and equipment for local soldiers and for a martial arts programme.
A press release yesterday said the agreement came out of discussions held yesterday when a five-member Chinese delegation headed by Senior Colonel Qian Lihua paid a courtesy call on acting GDF Chief of Staff Colonel Edward Collins at army headquarters, Camp Ayanganna.
The discussions, which focused on the two countries’ military bilateral agreement and matters of common interest, also saw an agreement for the training of GDF members by a two-man martial arts team to be deployed here and for training of the army’s Band Corps, the release said.
A similar US$2M agreement was signed in 2001 and the GDF acquired a Y-12 aircraft.
