The Working People’s Alliance (WPA) has extended condolences on the death yesterday of former President and PNCR leader Desmond Hoyte and applauded his achievements.
“The WPA salutes the courage and intellect of a man whose contribution to the return to democracy in 1991 and the conceptualization and implementation of the Economic Recovery Programme guarantees him a place of distinction in the history of Guyana”, a release from the party said yesterday.
The WPA said his passing came at the end of a turbulent year for the country and after his party “embraced the philosophy of shared governance as a way forward for Guyana”. That the country will no longer have the benefit of his statesmanship and experience makes his death untimely, the party added.
“The WPA calls on those who carry the primary responsibility for the future of our country to transform this moment of national grief into an opportunity to reflect on and adopt a path of national reconciliation and development”, the statement said.
Condolences were extended to his widow, Joyce, his relatives and colleagues in the PNC/R.
