Last rites for former President

From this evening until Sunday evening, as happened from last Sunday until Tuesday, PNCR party members will be gathering at Congress Place for the traditional wake for former Executive President and PNCR Leader Desmond Hoyte who died on Sunday.
Wakes will also be held in the other regions.
Sunday December 29: PNCR celebration of the life of Desmond Hoyte
11 am - 4 pm: The PNCR Celebration Programme includes floral tributes and tributes by members of the public during the viewing of the body which will take place between 11 am - 1 pm and from 3 pm - 4 pm.
Some of the items that will form part of the programme include a tribute by PNCR chairman Robert Corbin; a closing statement by PNCR general secretary, Oscar Clarke; performances by First Born, the Yoruba Singers and Jean Roberts; tributes from the Guyana Labour Union, the Guyana Teachers Union and the Union of Agricultural and Allied Workers; and burial rites by the Rose Summer Lodge No 1, of which Hoyte's grandfather was the first Grandmaster.
4 pm (December 29) - 9 am (December 30)
Vigil at the Merriman's Funeral Home which will be kept by the Guyana Youth and Student Movement.
Monday December 30: Designated a National Day of Mourning. The exact form the day of mourning will take is still to be announced by officials from the government and the PNCR who are collaborating on the funeral arrangements.
9 am to 12 pm: Public viewing of Mr Hoyte's body at the Square of the Revolution.
1 pm - 3 pm: State Funeral Ceremony at the Public Buildings. (Parliament Buildings)
4:30 PM: Interment at the Place of the Seven Ponds in the Botanical Gardens.
