He said he was "extremely happy" with the crowd turnout and lauded the Guyana Police Force for its "outstanding support" from early morning until late that night, with its large numbers of officers, plain clothes cops and special security ranks.
"People felt very safe, families that will not traditionally venture to such late outings turned out in their numbers, too," Nadir reported.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the Fire Service, which had a tender on standby for the entire duration of the event.
Nadir said, taking into consideration that it was held under "severe security strains", he was heartened when he saw the throngs, families and people of every age and race groups among them.
The Minister remarked on the wide variety of food, beverages, toys, clothing, paintings and other things that were on show and for sale as well as the new features, like merry-go-rounds, ferris wheel, go-carts and trampolines, which catered for children.
The extended venue for the new annual programme was in Main Street between Lamaha and Church Streets and many companies and business places lit the trees along the way as the festive season continued.
Nadir praised the City Council for its efficiency which caused traffic to proceed smoothly on Monday morning along a litter free Main Street.
