The workshop aims to educate and capture the advantages of IP protection in today's globalised economy, and how it could be used as a tool to enhance development, the ministry said.
As such, it is expected to assist in further enhancing the knowledge of government officials and other associated agencies in the field of IP, the ministry said in a press release.
Among the agencies expected to participate are the Ministry of Legal Affairs; Customs and Trade Administration; Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce; the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport; the Private Sector Commission, musicians and the writers associations.
A four-member team of IP experts from the WIPO will be among facilitators at the workshop, the ministry said.
It noted that since the accession to the WIPO on October 25, 1996, the Government of Guyana has developed an active programme of cooperation with the organisation.
Government officials have benefited from training programmes and participated in regional and inter-regional seminars organised by WIPO and have enhanced their knowledge in the various IP fields, the ministry said.
