In a release yesterday, the party said it is indeed a sad time for all Guyanese generally and the working class in particular.
"Mr. Pollydore first came to prominence during the transport strike known as the Teare strike in the late 1940s.
"He together with Boysie Ramkarran and other leaders such as Ivan Edwards led one of the important strikes in the colonial days," the PPP recalled, adding that since then Mr. Pollydore had given all his energies to the trade union movement.
The PPP said that to his everlasting credit would be Mr. Pollydore's efforts to preserve unity of the Guyana Trades Union Congress and to make it an effective force.
It noted that unfortunately, shortly after he was prompted into retirement that unity was ruptured.
He will always be remembered for his tireless contributions to promote the cause of the workers locally, regionally and internationally, the party reflected.
It also extended deep sympathy to the family of Mr. Pollydore and the labour movement as a whole "on the passing of one of its foremost stalwarts".
Mr. Pollydore died Wednesday. He was 94.
