WORKING People’s Alliance (WPA) has described late veteran trade unionist Joseph Pollydore as one who “personified the best and ablest in Guyana’s trade unionism.”

In a tribute to the 94-year-old recipient of the Order of Roraima (OR) and Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH), WPA said:” He was a leader and fighter for workers’ rights and welfare.

“To the WPA, Bro Pollydore was always larger than life. For all of the last century and even up to today, trade unionism in our country has been a tale of conflict and confrontation and a constant test of will, resolve organisation and negotiating skills.

“Not only did Bro Pollydore embrace all the qualities needed for these tasks but he also mastered the art of resolving conflict, even as he relentlessly pushed forward the interests of the working class at all times,” WPA said.

The political party added: It pains the WPA that the condition of the working class today does not bear testimony to all he has contributed, nor does it represent what they deserve.”

WPA said the life of Pollydore “reminds us that the struggle for the betterment of the mass of Guyanese people continues, day in and day out - never ending.”

The tribute ended: “On the occasion of his passing, WPA extends its condolences to his bereaved relatives, friends, colleagues, members of the working class and to all those persons whose lives he touched.”
