THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday refuted media reports that last Wednesday night's kidnap victim, Mr Dev Sharma, did not receive prompt assistance from cops in 'C' Division, East Coast Demerara.

A statement said, contrary to what was reported, Sharma arrived at the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) location about 05:05 hrs (5.05 am) last Thursday morning and requested a telephone call which was granted.

He then proceeded to call his father and asked him to come and pick him up and, when he was finished, he then called Beterverwagting Police Station, about 05:25 hrs, from GSA, too and told the Police of the request he made of his father.

The statement said the Police, immediately on receipt of that report, alerted a senior detective rank at Cove and John, who, in turn, called Sharma at GSA and advised him that, should his father arrive before the Police who had already left for GSA, they should stop at Beterverwagting station.

This Mr Sharma agreed to do but, unfortunately and for reasons best known to him, he did not, the statement said.

It added that, when Police reached GSA, they were told that Sharma's father had arrived there in a car and they had left together.
