Discussions between the Government and the PNC/R have been ongoing to arrive at a mutually acceptable agenda and to make arrangements for a meeting between President Jagdeo and Mr. Corbin, Head of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon said yesterday.
He said Cabinet was advised that the preliminary activities led by Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr. Reepu Daman Persaud on behalf of the People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administration and PNC/R Chief Whip, Mr. Lance Carberry, continue.
He indicated that both representatives, Persaud and Carberry, are very conscious of the commitment of President Jagdeo and Mr. Corbin, to meet, and they have been continuing their various written representations from the two sides which set the tone for that impending meeting.
Upon his election as Leader of the PNC/R, Mr. Corbin indicated that he is willing to engage in constructive discussions with President Jagdeo. As such, he has accepted an invitation from President Jagdeo to meet.
Luncheon also said yesterday that Cabinet again reacted to the delay in the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition with increasing concern as the feeling was that it is an appointment that was long overdue.
